Homes in multiple occupation register

The Housing Act 2004 requires every Local Authority to maintain a public register of premises licensed under the Act as a high risk House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). The following properties are licensed by Ryedale District Council to operate as Houses in Multiple Occupation.

National fire safety standards (PDF, 87 pages, 328kb)

If you have any queries in relation to a property which has been licensed or which you feel should be licensed, please complete an enquiry form.

It is a licence condition that the licence holder displays a copy of the licence in a prominent position in the property.

North Yorkshire Fire Safety Guidance

North Yorkshire Fire Safety Guidance (PDF, 25 pages, 610kb)

This document is intended to provide you with guidance on relevant fire safety provisions that Local Authorities within North Yorkshire, in consultation with the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, feel would be necessary in private housing, including houses in multiple occupation.

To help you understand the technical aspects of the guide, each section is accompanied by a diagram showing typical layouts.

This guidance is not a prescriptive standard and should not be used as such. Any design of systems and fire precautions should take into account a suitable fire risk assessment.

More detailed guidance is provided in the LACORS document: 'Housing - Fire Safety guidance on fire safety provisions for certain types of existing housing',

National Fire Safety Guidance

National guidance on fire safety within residential accommodation was launched on 23 July 2008. The guidance applies nationally and covers certain existing residential accommodation including single family dwellings, shared houses, bed-sit and flats where there is 'normal/average' occupancy.

The guidance adopts a risk based approach to fire safety that satisfies both the Housing Act 2004 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and includes guidance for landlords on how to carry out fire risk assessments.
