Health advice
Living Well Smokefree has a team of advisors who have plenty of experience in helping people to stop smoking for good. They will see anyone from the age of 12, have community based locations across North Yorkshire and can arrange home visits for people who have mobility issues.
If you are pregnant and would like to quit, you can access the service yourself or ask your midwife to refer you. You will be offered a choice of a home visit or an appointment in a clinic if you prefer.
Living Well Smokefree offers personalised, one-to-one support over six to 12 weeks. For as little as 30p a day* you can get:
- access to a dedicated Stop Smoking Consultant
- a supply of either Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) or Champix; or
- local weekly one-to-one sessions
* Based on one quit product per person who pays prescription charges. The products are free to people who do not pay prescription charges.
We know that people who use this combination of support are four times more likely to quit - and stay quit.

A Tier 2 Weight Management Service has been launched in Ryedale, as part of efforts to help improve the health and wellbeing of local communities.
The newly commissioned service was launched on 16 November 2015, and is being managed by Everyone Active, in partnership with Ryedale District Council, utilising funding provided by North Yorkshire County Council. It is available for adults who live in Ryedale, who are overweight, or at high risk of obesity (BMI of over 25) and want to make a change in their lifestyle.
The service is free and consists of a 12 week 'rolling' support programme, aimed at helping people make informed decisions regarding their weight and to live a healthier lifestyle. The programme consists of a 90 minute session per week. The session will be split into a 45 minute physical activity session (low intensity) and 45 minute nutritional information session.
The service, which was previously only available through a GP referral, has now been extended to allow self referrals. If you think you maybe eligible for this programme, or require further information, please visit Everyone Active, email Annette King or phone 01642 447720.
In North Yorkshire 66% of adults are overweight and 21% of four to five year olds and over 30% of ten to eleven year olds are measured as having excess weight.
The most recent North Yorkshire Joint Strategic Needs Assessment has highlighted a rise in childhood and adult obesity as an increasing problem across the county, particularly among the adult population, with North Yorkshire now being ranked 24 out of 27 shire counties for this indicator.
In order to address the worrying rise in childhood and adult obesity, the North Yorkshire Health and Wellbeing Board have launched a ten year strategy Health Weight, Healthy Lives: tackling overweight and obesity in North Yorkshire (2016-2026).
