Privacy notice for planning policy consultationsBackground to the Distribution of Development
The Distribution of Development is a very important part of the Local Plan as it provides a framework for identifying land on which to build new homes and buildings for businesses and shops. It is through the formation of this policy that we can identify how much development can happen in specific places.
Our Local Plan (the Ryedale Plan) is being partially reviewed. The current Distribution of Development policy is something that we are considering updating and what changes should be made if so. The existing policy lists settlements in the form of a ‘Settlement Hierarchy’, from which development can then be directed to specific places for housing, employment land and retail uses. This is achieved through the allocation of sites and the planning application process.
The Distribution of Development consultation document
We have prepared a document to set out our thoughts on how we review the approach to Distribution of Development in the Ryedale Plan. We would like to hear your thoughts about our overall approach going forward, and on what basis we should decide how much development settlements could have. In this document, we have presented a series of questions in order to obtain views on the approach we should take and the capacity of settlements to accommodate development.
The Distribution of Development and identification of appropriate sites is built on the choices we make as a Council. These choices are informed by this and other consultations as well as a range of technical evidence which is currently under preparation.
We have set this out in more detail in the consultation document.
