New competition for Ryedale schoolchildren

Ryedale District Council is launching a new competition for local primary school children to highlight responsible dog ownership.

The competition forms part of the Council’s Don’t be a Waster – Reduce, Reuse, Respect campaign which is currently highlighting dog fouling and responsible dog ownership following a series of events in the district with the Dogs Trust.

The Council’s team of Community Officers have also been visiting local primary schools to talk about the issue and have invited children submit their short stories, drawings, poems, photos or even videos about being a responsible dog owner.

Councillor Luke Ives, Chairman of the Council's Policy and Resources Committee, explained, “This competition is helping us spread the word about how we need to look after our environment for the next generation of dog owners.

“We want to prove how brilliant we know our dog loving residents are at looking after our dogs and our environment in Ryedale.

“What we’ll be looking for will be entries from the children that really demonstrate what it takes to being a responsible dog owner – like exercising your pet regularly, providing healthy food and making sure your dog is happy. All dog owners should pick up after their pet – and bag it and bin it, either in a dog waste bin or a regular litter bin.

“We’ve got some really great prizes from Ryedale Folk Museum, Linton’s Pet Shop, Fairfax Arms and the Talbot Hotel, whom we would like to thank for donating prizes and supporting the campaign,” Cllr Ives added.

Entries (videos via We Transfer) should be emailed to the Community Team - . Closing date is 21 December 2018.
