Open data - Parish Councils

Under the 'Transparency code for smaller authorities' produced in December 2014 by the Department of Communities and Local Government, parish councils are now required to publish a series of financial information.

The Code has been issued to meet the Government’s desire to place more power into citizens’ hands to increase democratic accountability. Transparency gives local people the tools and information they need to hold local public bodies to account.

Smaller authorities should publish:
a. all items of expenditure above £100;
b. end of year accounts,
c. annual governance statement,
d. internal audit report,
e. list of councillor or member responsibilities and
f. the details of public land and building assets,
g. Minutes, agendas and meeting papers of formal meetings.

The data and information must be published:

  • on the first occasion, not later than 1 July 2015, and
  • thereafter, not less than annually and not later than 1 July in the year immediately following the accounting year to which it relates.

For more information on the Transparency code for smaller authorities, please see here.

Parish Councils have to publish the information outlined above on a website which is publicly accessible free of charge. This page shows the Parish Councils who have chosen to use the Ryedale District Council website to publish the required information.
