Under the 'Transparency code for smaller authorities' produced in December 2014 by the Department of Communities and Local Government, parish councils are now required to publish a series of financial information.

The Code has been issued to meet the Government’s desire to place more power into citizens’ hands to increase democratic accountability. Transparency gives local people the tools and information they need to hold local public bodies to account.

Smaller authorities should publish:
a. all items of expenditure above £100;
b. end of year accounts,
c. annual governance statement,
d. internal audit report,
e. list of councillor or member responsibilities and
f. the details of public land and building assets,
g. Minutes, agendas and meeting papers of formal meetings.

The data and information must be published annually and not later than 1 July in the year immediately following the accounting year to which it relates.

For more information on the Transparency code for smaller authorities, please see here.

Parish Councils have to publish the information outlined above on a website which is publicly accessible free of charge.

Any enquiries should be directed to the relevant Parish Clerk and contact details can be found here.

We receive a number of requests for information about business rates accounts (non-domestic properties). In response, we now publish data on:

  • Accounts in credit and accounts with write-ons
  • All reliefs
  • All properties including start date

We will publish this information on a monthly basis. We will not provide individual responses to requests during the year for similar information but will redirect requests to our published list of reports held on our website.

This information is available in our Web Library.
