After the closing date

Applications are anonymously and individually assessed by the recruiting panel. Applicants must meet all the essential criteria in order to be considered for interview. Consequently, it is important that you clearly evidence the essential and desirable criteria of the person specification. Commonly, the desirable criteria will also be used to help identify the applicants to be selected for interview.

The interview process follows the STARR technique, details of which are included on this document (PDF, 3 pages, 145kb). Selection will be based on the outcome of the interview and on how well you demonstrate the values and behaviours outlined in the PROUD Behavioural Framework (PDF, 5 pages 147kb)

Any interest in applying to Ryedale District Council for employment is appreciated. However, due to the number of applications received, it is not possible to offer feedback to applicants who are not invited for interview. This also supports an open, fair and transparent process whilst eliminating the risk of any perception that an individual may have been given an unfair advantage, should they apply in the future.

There may be times when interview dates are set in the advertisement due to commitments the interview panel may have. For that reason it may not be possible to Disability logomake alternative arrangements for an individual’s personal circumstance.

Please note that, in the interests of economy, acknowledgements of applications will not normally be made. Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the selection process as soon as possible.

Our policy requires that all applicants must apply to a current vacancy; therefore speculative applications will not be accepted.

Data Protection

Any personal information supplied to the Council by way of a job application will be used only for its intended purpose, that is, for recruitment and selection. Successful candidates' applications will obviously be retained throughout their employment; all other applicants' information will be destroyed six months from receipt. Information received via equal opportunities forms will be used for monitoring purposes only and also destroyed six months after receipt.

 

Free car parking

Free car parking is available on site for all Council employees.

Flexitime and home working

A system of flexible working is available to most Council staff which enables staff to choose their hours of work between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm.  Alternatively if appropriate to the duties of the post and with managerial agreement, staff may work either all or some of their time at home.

Canteen facilities

Subsidised canteen facilities are available for both full meals, light lunches and snacks at Ryedale House.

Health care scheme

There are several not-for-profit health schemes administered by the Council for all employees, offering significant benefits on various forms of medical treatment.

Leisure/health benefits

Discounts are available for Ryedale staff at the two swimming pools in Malton and Pickering (swimming only).  From time to time other health practitioners may offer services at Ryedale House, such as massage, yoga and pilates.

Reimbursement of travel costs

For those using their own car for work purposes a mileage allowance is paid which covers both petrol costs and a wear and tear element.

Childcare vouchers

The Council uses Computershare Ltd to provide childcare vouchers for all staff paying National Insurance who pay for childcare.  These vouchers provide a significant discount on almost all childcare costs.

Free counselling and occupational health services

The Council provides a free, fully confidential counselling service and an Occupational Health Adviser is available for appointments, if necessary.

Family friendly leave

There are a number of policies at the Council designed to help families balance work and domestic commitments;They include:

  • maternity leave
  • paternity/maternity support leave
  • parental leave
  • the right to request an amended working pattern

Learning and development

Staff at all levels are encouraged to learn and develop. This is facilitated through a variety of means such as mentoring programmes, development centres, secondments and internal and external training courses. Longer term professional training courses are also often financed and encouraged.

Local Government Pension Scheme

The Local Government Pension Scheme is a statutory, funded pension scheme. With effect from 1 April 2014 this is a 'Career Average Pension Scheme', which means:

  • It remains a defined benefits scheme
  • Your State Pension Age becomes your 'normal pension age', which is dependant upon your date of birth

The Career Average Pension Scheme provides for:

  • flexibility from age 55 to 75 when you can take your pension
  • flexibility about the amount you pay to be a member of the scheme.
  • extra cover including a lump sum payment of three times your annual pensionable pay if you die whilst an active member of LGPS.

Recognised Trade Union

The Council recognises the trade union UNISON which represents staff, and offers local and national benefits to members.
