There are various Council Tax discounts available. Please apply by using the link that is right for you:
Apprentices
Apprentices can apply hereCarers and care workers
Carers and care workers can apply hereCare workers resident in the same home as the person being cared for can apply for a discount.

Apply for disabled reliefForeign language assistants
Foreign language assistants do not pay Council tax and can apply here for a discount. You will need to show a letter confirming you are registered with the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges (CBEVE) and the dates of placement.
Hospital patients
Hospital patients do not pay Council tax and can apply here. You will need to show a letter of confirmation from the hospital.
Members of an International HQ or a Defence Organisation
Members of an International HQ or a Defence Organisation do not pay Council Tax. You will need to show proof of membership of the relevant organisation.
Religious communities
Some members of religious communities do not pay Council Tax. You will need to show a letter from a religious order that you are dependent on the Community and that you have no income or capital.
Non-British spouse or dependent of a student
A non-British person who is a spouse or dependent of a student does not pay Council Tax if they cannot work or receive benefits. You will need to show a student certificate and written confirmation of relationship to the student.
Care home residents
Care home residents do not pay Council Tax and can apply here. However if you have someone living in your home then you do pay but can apply for a single occupier discount here.
Prisoners
Prisoners will not pay Council Tax. Please complete the form here.
Diplomatic duties
If you have Diplomatic duties then you do not pay Council Tax. You will need to show evidence of this, eg a letter from Government.
Homeless
The Homeless do not pay Council tax, even if they are staying in a hostel. You will need to provide a letter from the hostel and confirm that the only residents are people of no fixed abode.
School or college leavers
School or college leavers who then go into further education do not pay Council Tax. If you decide to go into work etc then you will pay from 1 November in the year you left school or college. School or college leavers, please apply here.
Severe mental impairment
Those with severe mental impairment do not pay Council Tax. Please complete the form with your Doctor here.
Living alone
You can get a discount of 25% if you live alone in the property. Please apply here for a Single Occupancy discount.
Students
Students do not pay Council Tax. Students please apply here and include a certificate from your college or university.
Visiting Forces
You can apply for a discount if you have been posted due to your connection with a Visiting Force. To apply please write with proof of your posting, eg with a copy of a certificate or posting papers.
Training
If you are under 25 and in training you may be able to apply for a discount. You can apply here with, for example, a letter from a course supervisor.
Spread the cost of your Council Tax
You can request to spread your Council Tax payments over 12 months. Please contact Revenues Services on 01653 600666. Please let us know on or before 14 April of the relevant financial year.
