Child protection

NYCCThe child protection scheme takes measures to safeguard vulnerable children and young people at risk or suffering from physical, emotional or sexual abuse. This involves investigating reports of suspected abuse and where appropriate applying for a Child Assessment Order, Care Order, Supervision Order or Emergency Protection order.

Ryedale District Council takes its responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults very seriously. The Ryedale Safeguarding Panel meets regularly and the Safeguarding Policy is reviewed on an annual basis, following guidelines set by North Yorkshire County Council.

What should I do if I am worried about the safety of a child?

In an emergency contact North Yorkshire Police.

For a less urgent concern please contact North Yorkshire County Council who have a duty to investigate any child protection concerns.

What do Ryedale District Council do to safeguard children in the district?

Ryedale District Council takes its responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults very seriously. Staff are trained to recognise safeguarding issues and make referrals when appropriate. The Ryedale Safeguarding Panel meets quarterly and the Safeguarding Policy is reviewed on an annual basis.
