LEADER will fund farmers, growers, foresters, other local rural businesses and rural community organisations to help:

  • create jobs
  • develop and grow rural businesses
  • support the rural economy

To be successful, applications must contribute to one or more of Defra’s 6 priorities for LEADER, which are to:

  • increase farm productivity
  • support micro and small businesses and farm diversification
  • boost rural tourism
  • provide rural services
  • provide cultural and heritage activities
  • increase forestry productivity

Two LEADER programmes are operating in Ryedale during 2016 – 2020:

  • The North York Moors, Coast and Hills (NYMCH) programme covers central, northern and western parts of Ryedale. Projects are encouraged to check their eligibility and contact the programme staff at the earliest opportunity. For further details on eligibility and application process see NYMCH
  • The Coast Wolds Wetlands and Waterways (CWWW) programme covers south-eastern parts of Ryedale. Those with ideas for projects are encouraged to check their eligibility and (if eligible) complete and submit a Project Ideas Form and contact the programme staff at the earliest opportunity. For further details see CWWW

If you have a project that you think matches the above criteria please see this Map (PDF, 1 page, 3066kb) to identify which LEADER programme is relevant to your project and follow the relevant programme links (above) for further information.

The Youth Charity, The Prince's Trust helps to change young lives. It gives practical and financial support in developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation.

The Prince's Trust works with 14 to 30 year olds, who may have found school difficult, been in care, long-term unemployed or are struggling to find a niche for themselves.

If you have an idea for a business but are unable to raise the funding you need, then The Prince's Trust's business programme could help you to get up and running with financial and mentor support. Information sessions and individual appointments to discuss your idea are available locally. Phone free on 0800 842 842 or visit the Prince's Trust website.
