September - litter

We want to see less litter in our district.

dont be a waster septemberWe're proud of where we live and we want you to be too. That’s why Ryedale District Council has started our new Don’t be a Waster – Reduce, Reuse, Respect campaign by focussing on litter in our beautiful district.

The #1PieceofRubbish initiative asks residents to pick up one piece of rubbish and put it in the bin. Anyone who joins this and shares a picture of them doing so with us – through our social media channels or by emailing photos to us – will be entered into our special competition to win one of three prizes*:

  • One of two family passes for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway
  • One month's free pass for an Everyone Active centre
  • Annual pass to Ryedale Folk Museum

All residents need to do is share on Twitter @ryedaledc, via our Facebook page or by emailing it to .

The 1 piece of rubbish challenge started as a people’s initiative in France, supporting the idea that we’re all capable of picking up 1 piece of rubbish per day – for cleaner streets, communities and cleaner future. The results have been clear – 3,475 Instagram pictures, 12,031 Facebook, Twitter and Instagram fans and 32,483 kg of rubbish.

* Winning entries will be picked at random on Friday 1 October 2017 and will be notified via the channel they entered with.
