Housing advice
Housing advice - status: reduced
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and responding to social distancing we will not be conducting any face to face housing interviews.
How to access advice or help:
- First, please refer to the Housing webpages on this website.
- If you need housing advice or homeless assistance, where possible, please complete an enquiry through our Customer Portal. Once you have completed the self-referral an officer will contact you to discuss your situation further.
- If you are unable to contact us online, please call on 01653 600 666 ext 43625. This will go directly to the Housing Options team. Staff will be required to gather some initial details from you when you call (the same as the info you would provide via the Customer portal).
- You can also email for general enquiries.
If it is an emergency and you are without accommodation tonight then please contact 01653 600666 ext 43625. If you are calling after 5pm and at weekends contact 01653 697737.
Privacy notices applicable to our Housing services are available on our Privacy Information page.
The Homelessness Reduction Act (HRA) came into effect on 3 April 2018 and changed the way we deal with any eligible person who is at risk of homelessness.
Three main aims of the Homelessness Reduction Act are Prevent, Intervene and Recover
- Prevent more people from becoming homeless in the first place by identifying people at risk and intervening earlier with evidenced solutions
- Intervene rapidly if a homelessness crisis occurs, so it is brief and non-recurrent
- Recover - Help more people recover from and exit homelessness by getting them back on their feet
If you are worried about becoming homeless then get in touch as soon as possible so we can help prevent you becoming homeless. If you’re at risk of homelessness within the next 56 days then you can use our online self-referral form to contact the Customer Services Team, or browse the information pages below.
The Council has produced a Contacts Directory (PDF, 11 pages, 375kb) containing useful contact details of organisations to help with housing, health, education and other social and wellbeing issues
