Borrowing money
We work in partnership with Community First Credit Union to offer an alternative banking option in Ryedale.
Residents in Ryedale can open a current account with card access and online banking facilities through the credit union and they also offer loans, savings accounts and a budgeting account, which assists households to manage their monthly income and ensure that priority bills are paid.
If you need that extra bit of money for a new car, holiday, washing machine, any unexpected expense or are starting or growing a business then the credit union provides a number of affordable loan products with low interest rates. The credit union offers an alternative to the main high street banks and will also work with people who find themselves excluded from mainstream financial institutions.
For more information about how to access the credit union please visit Community First, email or telephone 03030 300010.
I have borrowed money from someone and think they may be a loan shark
What is a loan shark?
If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions you might be borrowing from a loan shark:
- Did they offer you a cash loan?
- Did they not give you paperwork?
- Did they add huge amounts of interest or APR to your loan?
- Have they threatened you?
- Are you scared of people finding out?
- Have they taken your bank card, benefit card, passport, watch or other valuables from you?
Loan sharks may start out friendly, but if you fall behind with repayments they'll often resort to intimidation, threats or even violence to pressure you into repaying the debt. If you are worried and need advice contact the illegal money lending team at Stop Loan Sharks or call 0300 555 2222.
