The Government has made a commitment to support service personnel, veterans and their families.
The Armed Forces Covenant outlines the positive measures in place for the Armed forces community. It ensures that they have no disadvantage, compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.
Armed Forces Covenant
We support military personnel and their families/dependants in the district, and veterans who have chosen to live here. We’re delighted to have received the bronze award from the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).
We’ve also signed up to the North Yorkshire Armed Forces Community Covenant and strive to meet our responsibilities in the Armed Forces Covenant.
Help for over 65s
A range of help and support for past members of the armed forces over 65 is also available delivered by the White Rose Home Improvement Agency
Housing support
If you’re leaving the Armed Forces, or you’re a former member, you may be entitled to help from us if you are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Please email our Housing team or call 01653 600666 ext 43625.
We intervene at early stages to prevent homelessness and secure accommodation.
As soon as you’ve received your Discharge from Service and Notice to Vacate (93 day notice) email our Housing team or call 01653 600666 ext 43625 so we can help you find a home.
You must consider private rental property which is suitable for your household needs. We may also assist you to secure a six month assured shorthold tenancy in the private sector. Please visit Right Move for further information on available properties.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may also register for social housing via North Yorkshire Home Choice.
