Our climate change commitment
In October 2019, Ryedale District Council joined other bodies in declaring a climate change emergency and making a commitment to actions to help achieve net zero emissions across Ryedale by 2050. This is our climate change commitment:
Increasing knowledge and awareness of climate change issue across the Council
Building climate change considerations into our Council Plan, decision-making processes, and service delivery plans
We will set an example by…
- Reducing our own carbon emissions as a Council by using green technologies and suppliers, and becoming more efficient in our use of energy, water and other resources
We will deliver energy-conscious projects such as…
- Replacing the streetlights we own with energy-efficient LED and part-night lighting
- Introducing electric vehicle charging points in key locations
- Improving the way we manage waste
We will encourage others to act responsibly by…
- Requiring that new building developments are planned to be as sustainable as possible
- Supporting community-based schemes which contribute to a reduction in climate change
- Promoting the practical action that businesses and individuals can take to reduce carbon emissions in Ryedale
