The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will pass through Ryedale during its final journey through England this summer.
We will officially welcome the baton on Wednesday 13 July after starting the final leg of its journey in London on 2 June.
Ryedale is one of hundreds of communities across the country that will receive a visit from the Queen’s Baton Relay as it tours each region of England in the run up to the 11 days of showstopping sport.

What is the Queen’s Baton Relay?
The Queen’s Baton Relay is a tradition that celebrates, connects and excites communities across the Commonwealth during the build up to the Games. Birmingham 2022 is staging the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay. It began on 7 October 2021 at Buckingham Palace, when The Queen placed her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton. The Baton is travelling for a total 294 days and will visit all nations and territories of the Commonwealth. The epic journey aims to embrace culture; ignite hope, solidarity and collaboration; and share stories that inspire others to take on challenges.
Who is carrying the Baton?
Thousands of Batonbearers, each with inspiring backgrounds and stories, will have the honour of carrying the Baton during the journey through England. Batonbearers were nominated for in recognition of their contributions to their local community and being an inspiration to others.
One of the confirmed community Batonbearers in Yorkshire and the Humber is Harleen Kaur, from Bradford, a martial artist and kickboxing champion who was nominated in recognition of her work within sports that brings South Asian women and women from other backgrounds to the forefront of sporting activity and athletics.
What events, activities and competitions can I take part in?
The Malton leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay will begin on Yorkersgate near the war memorial at 2.08pm on 13 July and will finish just before the mini roundabout on Old Malton Road at 2.30pm.
Competitions
All entries to competitions need to be submitted to RyedaleBatonRelay2022@ryedale.gov.uk no later than 10 July. Don’t delay take part today.
