October – food waste

Saving you money, saving your food.

Love Food Hate WasteRyedale District Council has teamed up with York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership to help you make the most of your leftovers. They have lots of good ideas about how you can save money and make the most of the food you buy. Reducing your food waste can save the average family up to £60 per month.

We'll have a roadshow and cookery demonstration at Pickering on Saturday 21 October. Chef Nigel Brown will be sharing his leftovers recipes and the York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership will be on hand with advice and leaflets to help you Love Food Hate Waste and make the most of your leftovers.

Nigel will be demonstrating the following four recipes on the day in Pickering, Mushroom Tagliatelle, Chicken, Leek and Potato Soup, Chilli Chicken Con Carne and Baked Apple Charlotte.  You’ll be able to take away copies of the recipes – and you may also get a chance to sample some of the delicious meals.

North Yorkshire Rotters volunteers will also be on hand to give information and advice about reducing food waste and saving up to £60 per month. Information and advice about home composting will also be available. There’ll also be recipe suggestions, spaghetti measurers, fridge thermometers, rice scoops given away.

malton monthly food marketRyedale District Council’s new community officers will also have a special stall at Malton Monthly Food Market on Saturday 14 October. They’ll also be giving away Love Food, Hate Waste items including spaghetti measurers, rice scoops and other handy kitchen gadgets to help you cut down on your food waste.

As well as sharing messages about reducing food waste, our community officers will also have information about their role as the face of the council in the community. The district is divided into six areas along ward boundaries and an officer is assigned to each geographical area. The Community Team officers deliver a local customer service for the Council, acting as the local representative of the council in their area. They help to ensure the smooth running of local facilities such as markets, car parks and public toilets and to be aware of any local issues specific to their area.
