Competition announced as Don't be a Waster campaign looks at garden waste in March.

Its competition time as the Don’t be a Waster – Reduce, Reuse, Respect campaign looks at garden waste during March.

We’re giving away a 330 litre compost bin that will help you cut your household waste, reduce landfill and will help you produce some great compost to improve your garden.

We’re working with York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership to promote composting and offering you the chance to win a compost bin.

To enter you can either comment on one of our Twitter or Facebook posts about the composting competition or send an email to . Entries should be received by 31 March.

The bins are made from recycled plastic and are guaranteed for 15 years so you’ll have many years of composting ahead.

More than 60% of the contents of the average rubbish bin is biodegradable and over a third can easily be composted at home. This includes fruit and vegetable peelings, garden waste, tea bags, coffee grounds and cardboard and paper. Also, as you are composting your own waste at home it is not being transported to landfill, saving additional emissions associated with the transport of waste.

You can buy low cost home compost bins by visiting www.letstalklessrubbish.com. The website also has a wealth of composting information and advice – ideal if you’re just starting out composting.

How to enter our competition to win a compost bin:

To enter, simply email your name, postal address and telephone number to , Or comment on our Facebook and Twitter posts about the composting competition. Entries should be received by 31 March. Winner will be drawn at random week commencing 2 April.
