A riverside market town with a vibrant horse racing industry
Separated from Malton by the beautiful River Derwent which flows just north of the town, Norton is a great base for exploring Ryedale. Norton is one of the principal centres in England for the horse racing industry and the evidence is all around you. Jockeys can sometimes be seen walking through the streets with the their magnificent horses, coming and going from Langton Wold and Highfield Gallops.

A bit of history
There has been evidence of a settlement here since before Roman times, and the discovery of ruined 3rd century kilns is a fascinating insight into Norton’s former pottery industry. Brewing was also a significant industry in Norton, though no breweries remain today.
