Emergency Grants Fund

About the fund

Ryedale District Council has launched an Emergency Grant Fund, to provide financial support to community and voluntary groups based in Ryedale, who are experiencing financial difficulties due to the COVID public health crisis.

The idea of the fund is provide a quick-turnaround injection of funds to cover the cost of equipment, supplies or operational costs, to help organisations to continue providing support out in the community.


You can apply for a grant under the Emergency Grant Fund if you meet ALL of the following conditions:

  • You are a community, voluntary or charitable organisation, based in Ryedale AND
  • You provide a service to vulnerable Ryedale residents, or residents who have special needs, or your service helps to keep communities safe and healthy AND
  • Your group is currently active and operational AND
  • Your free reserves are less than £10k at the time of application

If the fund is over-subscribed, priority will be given to groups that support those people whose health and well-being are most at risk due to COVID-19.

Private sector businesses, local authorities and organisations already in receipt of core funding or Service Level Agreements with the Council are not eligible to apply.


  • You can apply for a grant of up to £4k
  • The grant can be used to pay for equipment and supplies that are needed to keep you operating now, or it can be used to cover current day-to-day operating costs such as staffing, training, fuel costs etc
  • The grant must NOT be used to fund or part-fund major capital projects (such as a new building), purchases of land or property, professional fees, previously funded projects, political or religious activities
  • You are restricted to one grant only at this time. If you are awarded funding from this scheme, you may not apply for a second grant.


  • Only applications made online through the Ryedale District Council Emergency Grants Fund online application form (see below) will be considered
  • You must stipulate in your application what the grant will be used for, and provide details of quotes or costings that justify the amount of your request
  • Ryedale District Council will carry out checks to verify applications. This is to avoid fraud and ensure Council money is being allocated appropriately.
  • Applications will be considered on a weekly basis by the Head of Customer Service, in liaison with the Chair of the Grants Working Party and the Leader of the Council and a recommendation will then be made to accept or reject applications received. The Elected Ward Member will be informed if the group/activity is specific to their ward area. Under urgency powers, the Chief Executive will make the final decision on grant awards, based on the recommendation received.
  • If the fund is over-subscribed, priority will be given to groups that support those people whose health and well-being are most at risk due to COVID-19
  • If you are successful, we will send you a grant offer letter detailing the amount, terms and any specialist conditions of the grant award.
  • By accepting the award you agree to abide by the Council’s grant conditions.
  • A list of supported organisations will be posted on the Ryedale District Council website.
  • As this is emergency funding, groups receiving a grant must spend the money within six months of receiving it.
  • Ryedale District Council will monitor the outcome of the grant scheme and may undertake follow-up checks to ascertain that money was spent as intended, and reserves the right to take back any grant that has not been spent, or was not spent in line with the application.


In order to accept your application we must process your information, some of which is personal (for example, your name, address, email address etc). We are allowed to process this information because administering the grants is part of our statutory function. As part of the grant application process we will share the details of the application form with relevant Elected Members and officers of Ryedale District Council, plus other parties who can help us to verify the information in the application. Information in relation to your grant application will be retained by the Council for two years following the completion of the project.
