Support for tourism businesses
Working together to grow the Ryedale visitor economy
Ryedale District Council is investing in the growth and development of new and established tourism, leisure and hospitality businesses to create new employment and career opportunities.
Tourism contributes at least £378 million to the Ryedale economy each year supporting 9,000 jobs, 39% of the population (Ryedale Tourism Impact Report 2019). The tourism industry therefore plays a vital role in supporting livelihoods and facilitating economic development and inward investment, which are essential to making the area an attractive place in which to live, work and play - as well as visit.
The visitor economy is not only important in Ryedale; it is also now recognised as a key mechanism for economic development and regeneration across the UK. In view of this, we work closely with Welcome to Yorkshire and neighbouring local authorities to ensure the "product" is marketed nationally and internationally and visitors enjoy their experience in Ryedale.
Ryedale Destination Development Plan
The Tourism Network were commissioned to develop a Destination Development Plan for use by Ryedale District Council, Ryedale businesses and collaborative partners inside and outside Ryedale.
The key purpose of this Plan is to identify activities which can be undertaken in the short to medium term to increase the value of the visitor economy within Ryedale.
It is intended that the majority of the activities within this Plan should be completed within two years, with most undertaken over the next eighteen months. These are foundation activities, upon which further work will build.
