Cookies
This Online Mapping Service does not load cookies or retain a
history of previous visits to the site. Therefore, each time you
visit the site, you will need to select the map layers that you
want to view.
Your Screen/Display Resolution
The mapping
section of the website is optimised for a display of 1024 x 768 or
higher. Using a lower screen resolution may push the map down
the page and off your screen. Please scroll down to access the
mapping service's features.
Print
To print a map, you will need to
ensure that you enable pop-ups in your browser as the map is
displayed in a new window. You should note that pop-ups can be
disabled in a variety of ways: in your browser itself, in browser
toolbars (eg the Google toolbar), and in security software (eg
Norton). Some ad blockers also prevent pop ups.
You will also need to ensure that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader
on your computer to view the maps and print them.
Get Adobe Acrobat Reader (opens in new window) by
clicking on this icon:
The Entry Page
On the entry page you can search for a particular address by
using the Address Search feature or click on the
Go Directly To Map button to explore the map
service generally not based on a specific selected address.
The Help icon
opens back
to this page in a new window..
Address Search
You can use Address Search to search for and
display a specific location on the map. This facility is the
default screen that loads into the web browser when you enter the
Online Mapping Service.
The search facility is not case sensitive, so you may use
upper or lower case letters. To search for a location, enter
details into one or more of the following boxes:
- Building No: To minimise the search results
generated you should also enter a street name or postcode in the
relevant box.
- Building Name (eg Heather Lodge): A "fuzzy"
search is performed on this box which means that if you just type
in ‘heather’, the search will return results for every building
name that contains the word ‘heather’, such as ‘White Heather’ or
‘Heatherdene’.
- Street: To minimise the number of search
results generated you should type in the full name of the street
and also enter a building name/number or postcode in the relevant
box.
- Village name/Postal town: To minimise the
search results generated you should enter details in at least one
of the other boxes.
- Postcode: Enter the full postcode as you would
normally write it, eg YO17 7HH.
To remove all the text from the search boxes at any time,
click on the Clear button.
After entering details in one or more of the boxes, click on
the Submit button. The results of the search
(a list of addresses meeting your chosen search
criteria) will be displayed on screen in the box below.
Click once on the required address in the list to highlight it and
this will automatically generate a new window and display
the map at that location.
Please note: if you have already zoomed to a specific
location, the map window will remain at this location until you
either complete a new search or move around the map using the map
tools or other functions.
When the map screen loads, a red flag on the
map will identify the exact location of the address you have
selected. The
Navigation menu button

will be highlighted
whilst the other two page menu items
Find
Nearest and
Report are available but
"greyed out", thus:

.
The Navigation Window
By default you will enter the
Navigation screen with the
Navigation menu button

highlighted and the property (if you have searched for a
specific property) shown on the map by a red flag.

The map tools are located to the right of the map. You can use
these tools to interact directly with the map, to navigate and to
get extra information. Each tool is activated and made live by

Get Adobe Acrobat Reader (opens in new window) by
clicking on this icon:

Please note: -
- Maps should not be printed unless at least one
Ryedale District Council map layers is visible on the map due
to Ordnance Survey Licence Agreement restrictions. You must not
print a map that just shows Ordnance Survey base mapping.
- A single print is permitted for your own personal use.
- These maps are for identification purposes only and must not be
used for formal documentation. You cannot use this Online Mapping
Service to produce printed maps for the purpose of submitting a
planning application.
You can use the Print Current Map View
function to generate a map in PDF format and print to your
printer from the PDF.
First select your paper size and map scale from the options
displayed on screen and then click on the map to select the centre
of your print. Your screen will then automatically display a
preview of the print you have created. Click on the ‘download your
PDF’ link and you will then be able to print a hard copy of the
map. Click on the 'back' button on your browser or on the 'Back to
Map' link to return to the previous page on the Online Mapping
Service web site.
Note on map scales:
- A map displayed at a small scale (e.g. 1:50,000) shows less
detail and smaller map features but covers a larger area.
- A map displayed at a large scale (e.g. 1:1,250) shows more
detail and larger map features but covers a smaller area.
