Social media: what does it mean?
Social media is a relatively new way to communicate and
share information amongst friends, family, and colleagues
online. You can also meet people with similar interests to
your own. Social media sites are now used regularly by millions of
people and organisations worldwide.
We have developed a number of Social Media Guidelines which we use when
we are active in social media channels.
Ryedale District Council uses the following social media:
- Facebook
- Flickr
- Twitter
- YouTube
- Councillor and Parish Blogs/Websites
Facebook
Facebook is a social
networking website that allows users to join networks organised by
city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with
other people. People can also add friends and send them messages,
and update their personal profile to notify friends about
themselves.
Ryedale District Council on Facebook: this is an experimental
and developing use of Facebook by the Council and we hope that you
will soon be able to read newsfeeds, RSVP on local events, browse
photos and watch video.
Flickr
Flickr is a powerful social networking site that uses
photos to link people together.
Twitter
Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging
service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates
(known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140
characters in length. You can access Twitter updates
either through the Twitter website or a wide variety of programs
created specifically to view tweets.
YouTube
YouTube is a video sharing website where users can
upload, view, share and comment on video clips.
