How to comment on a planning application

Please note the online register is not a 24 hour service and will be unavailable between 11pm and 6am.

Please note when submitting comments the form will time out after 25 minutes. If you have a large amount of text to submit we recommend writing it in an external application (such as MS Word) and copying it into the comments box.

 

This is a guide to help you use the Online Planning Register showing you how to:

  1. Search for a planning application.
  2. View documents on a planning application.
  3. Register an account to comment on an application.
  4. Submit a comment on an planning application.

 

1. Search for a planning application

Before accessing the Online Planning Register you will have to click next (This acknowledges you have read the disclaimers).

You should now be looking at the Simple Search page:

Use the tabs to select the type of search you require:

  • Simple - is most commonly used details below.
  • Advanced - here you can enter much more search criteria such as Parish, Ward and Dates for the different stages of the application.
  • Weekly/Monthly Lists - here you can retrieve lists of applications based on dates such as decided or validated.
  • Property – here you can search for and find the history on that property.
  • Map – here you can zoom to an area and if there are any applications they will be shown on the map.

Simple Search

  • Select the type of application you are looking for - Applications, Appeals or Enforcements (it will default to Applications).
  • Enter a keyword such as a reference number, postcode or single line of an address into the text box and click Search.
  • A complete application number will take you straight into the application information, otherwise you will have a list of results, click on the blue link to view the application.

2. How to view documents associated with a planning application

Please note that only documents for applications submitted in 2007 and onwards are available.

Here you can see the original documents submitted with the application, comments made by the public and statutory authorities, planning constraints linked to the area, cases related to the property or site, and a map of the location.

  • Click on the View Associated Documents link
  • A list of documents will open in a new window
  • Click on the grey button next to the document description
  • This will open the document window:

Here the whole document can be seen in thumbnails; to jump to a particular page either click on the thumbnail or select the page number using the drop down on the right.

You can also open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader, please click on the PDF link on the right.

3. Register an account to comment on an application

You must register on the site if you wish to comment on a planning application.

  • Click on the Register button, as highlighted below:

  • Fill in the form with the relevant information; please note items marked * indicate a mandatory field.

Please note you must validate the e-mail address you use in order to complete the registration process. When you click "Next" on the registration form, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you entered. From that email click on the hyperlink to complete the registration process. You have now successfully registered.

Please note that the e-mail is automated; if you have an automated Junk Mail filter, you may need to check your junk mail folder.

4. Submit a comment on a planning application

Once you have Registered you can now login and register your comments:

  • Fill in the form; please note items marked * indicate a mandatory field.

Your contact details will be automatically displayed in the relevant fields (there is a link to update them if you wish to amend them).

  • Please tick the email confirmation box.
  • Submit the form. Provided you have ticked the email confirmation box you will receive a confirmation.
