Recycle Week 2009
22 - 28 June is National Recycle Week! Now in its fifth year,
Recycle Week is an annual event and the theme for 2009 is ‘let’s
waste less’. It aims to encourage people to try something new in an
effort to go greener and cut back on the waste we all produce.
Residents are being encouraged to recycle more
of their everyday items, such as glass, cans and paper, as well as
trying to recycle other things, such as textiles and electrical
items.
In order to make a start, everyone can become
involved by making a pledge. Simply visit Recycle Now and
make your recycling pledge online. It couldn’t be easier.
Ryedale residents are also now much more aware
about the problems of their food waste ending up in landfill sites.
Many people have made a conscious decision to reduce their food
waste, or recycle it by home composting.
To mark Recycle Week 2009, Ryedale District
Council is working with Kirkbymoorside Community Primary School on
a project to minimise waste at the school premises. And during the
week there is also a special display on recycling at Pickering
Library, which will be available for residents to view.
