Ryedale Pool Goes Environmentally
Friendly
One of Ryedale's swimming pools is becoming more
environmentally friendly.
Ryedale Pool in Pickering is the latest facility in the district
to undergo an environmental facelift, with new energy efficient
measures including a gas fired combined heat and power unit, air
source heat pumps and an array of solar thermal panels which will
provide renewable, low carbon energy to heat the pool and provide
hot water for showers.
As part of the works significant adaptations are to be made to
the air –handling system, which will also reduce energy use and
provide better environmental conditions inside the pool hall.
Once works are completed, the £300k package of proposals is
forecast to save in excess of 100 tonnes of CO2 per
year.
Work started on 23 January 2012 and is set to last for 12
weeks and will involve a 2 week shut-down from 5 March to 19 March
2012.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the works"
said Mike Adams, Facilities and Emergency Planning Manager. "During
the works there should be little impact on members of the public
using the facilities apart from the two week closure."
Hopes are high that the works will be completed by 6 April
2012.
