No increase in Council Tax for Ryedale District Council
Ryedale District Council last night (February
22) set its Council Tax for 2010/2011 without applying any increase
in its charge.
The cost of all of the services provided by
Ryedale District Council will cost £176.72 for a band D
property. That is the equivalent to less than £3.40 per week and
with nearly 60% of properties in bands A, B and C, most
Ryedale householders are paying less than that.
Officers were set the challenging target of
delivering the zero increase early in the year and significant work
has taken place to deliver a budget with significant efficiencies
without cuts to front line services. This target was set by the
elected members to recognise the financial difficulties many people
are facing in the current economic climate.
For the second year running this will be one
of the lowest increases in North Yorkshire.
On top of the Ryedale District Council element
the charges for the North Yorkshire County Council (2.94%
increase), Police Authority (2.7% increase) and Fire and Rescue
service (1.99% increase) are added to arrive at the final band D
charge of £1500.85. (This excludes parish precepts.)
Paul Cresswell, Chief Finance Officer for
Ryedale District Council said: “Setting a zero increase was a
difficult challenge for the authority but one which the officers
have been able to deliver through reviewing services and finding
efficiencies, that is saving money whilst maintaining or improving
service delivery.
“Next year will be difficult for the Authority
as reductions in government grant are predicted and we are already
working in order to minimise the impact on the Council Tax payers
and service users.”
