Urgent Election news

It is with regret that we have been informed that John Boakes, the candidate for the UK Independence party has died.   The effect of the death of a candidate on the forthcoming UK Parliamentary Election is that the election in the Thirsk and Malton Constituency must be stopped and re-run.  The revised date will be 27 May 2010.

Any person who was validly nominated for the first election, except the candidate who has died, will remain validly nominated unless they withdraw by the deadline.  No new nominations are allowed for the re-run election except that the party whose candidate has died may nominate a candidate to replace them.

Acting Returning Officer
