Sports Development

The Council's Community Projects Officer (Sport & Recreation), in partnership with Active Ryedale (formerly Ryedale Sport & Active Recreation Executive), aims to:

  • promote sport and active recreation in Ryedale
  • increase participation in sport & physical activity
  • widen access to opportunities 
  • ensure that quality sport development occurs through the development of volunteers and coaches
  • share information and provide advice to sports organisations in Ryedale.

Club & Coach Education

A range of courses are available annually to enhance both club and coach development by improving the running of their club or improving the diverse range of skills and qualifications required in today's coaching environment.

Generic courses that will be available (subject to demand) are:

  • Good Practice & Child Protection
  • Equity in your Coaching
  • Emergency First Aid
  • How to Coach Disabled People in Sport
  • An Introduction to Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD)
  • An Introduction to FUNdamentals of Movement

Sport Specific courses can also be arranged subject to demand.

Active Ryedale (formerly known as Ryedale Sport & Active Recreation Executive)

Active Ryedale is a constituted body, run by volunteers from the sporting community, which aims to help and develop sporting opportunities for everyone in Ryedale.

North Yorkshire Youth Games

The Youth Games is an annual event hosted by the County Sports Partnership, North Yorkshire Sport. Launched as the Millennium Games in 2000, the Youth Games allows children from across the County to come together and compete in a range of sporting activities, in a fun-filled and exciting day.

Summer Festival of Fun

The Summer Festival of Fun, is a programme of 'play days' delivered at a variety of venues throughout Ryedale. Aimed at 5 - 12 year-olds, they promise to offer a series of fun-packed days stretching over the summer holidays.
