Authorisation of Hypnotism
Consent Summary
Any exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism (as
defined in the Hypnotism Act 1952) requires the express written
consent of the Council as licensing authority.
Hypnotism includes hypnotism, mesmerism and any similar act or
process which produces or is intended to produce in any person any
form of induced sleep or trance in which the susceptibility of the
mind of that person to suggestion or direction is increased or
intended to be increased. The authority may attach conditions
to an authorisation in the interests of public safety. It is an
offence to hypnotise a person under 18.
The application for this consent must be submitted in writing
and signed by the applicant or their agent no less than 28 days
before the date on which the proposed performance is scheduled to
take place.

How long will it take to receive the
consent?
Following receipt of the application form and any necessary
attachments, you can expect to hear from us within 60
days.
Tacit Consent applies: this means that you will be able to act
as though your application is granted if you have not heard from us
by the end of the target period. If you have not heard
from us within a reasonable period please contact us. You
