Ryedale District Council does not have any housing stock,
however the Council and our main social housing provider Yorkshire
Housing have joined the North Yorkshire Choice Based Lettings (CBL)
Partnership which includes seven out of eight local
authorities across North Yorkshire and York.

The new lettings scheme has replaced the existing lettings
schemes of the authorities in the North Yorkshire Choice Based
Lettings Partnership and the system went live in July 2011.
The new scheme is based on customer choice, this means that all
available properties from a variety of landlords will be advertised
and applicants will be able to request which properties they wish
to be considered for.

How the Choice-Based Lettings system
works
- People applying for social housing across the partnership area
only have to complete one application form and are assessed in
accordance with the common lettings policy.
- Applicants are categorised into four bands according to their
housing need - Emergency, Gold, Silver or Bronze
- Landlords will advertise their properties and people can choose
which homes they are interested in 'bidding' for. 'Bid' is
the term used to mean that you want to apply for the property.
- The property will generally be offered to the applicant with
the greatest housing need, who expresses an interest in the
property, and meets the criteria
- Properties are advertised weekly.
- Applicants are able to 'bid' on up to 3 properties a week.
- Applicants are notified if they are the highest banded
applicant.
- The Choice Based Lettings system enables people to express an
interest in available properties rather than being selected from a
waiting list.
- Once the bidding deadline has ended, the property is offered to
the eligible person in the highest band.
Generally people housed by Housing Associations are those
defined as being in 'housing need' but eligibility criteria may
differ between Housing Associations.
Housing Associations in Ryedale
The main social housing provider in the district is Yorkshire Housing.
Other Housing Associations or Registered Social Landlords (RSLs)
with properties in Ryedale are:
Chevin Housing Association www.chevinha.co.uk.
Broadacres Housing Association www.broadacres.org.uk.
Home Housing Association www.homegroup.org.uk.
Sanctuary Housing Association www.sanctuary-group.co.uk/housing.
There is a huge demand on all types of housing within the
District and this means that there are a large number of households
already awaiting social housing, the demand for social housing far
