Countryside

Ryedale District Council and the North Yorkshire County Council work in partnership to undertake countryside management projects to benefit important wildlife species and habitats in the Ryedale area.

The Countryside Officer's role is to:
  • Provide advice and support to landowners, farmers, interested groups and individuals who wish to carry out practical projects to benefit wildlife and landscape.
  • Advise farmers and landowners on the Environmental Stewardship Scheme including the production of the Farm Environment Plans.
  • Co-ordinate and implement the Ryedale Biodiversity Action Plan in conjunction with the Ryedale Biodiversity Partnership Group. Please visit the Ryedale District Council Biodiversity Action Plan for the latest information.
  • Work with others to safeguard the most important wildlife sites in Ryedale including Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs).
  • Operate a grant scheme to support small, targeted projects that benefit important species and habitats.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of the wildlife resource in Ryedale.
  • Provide a countryside management input to Ryedale District Council's development control work.
This project operates in the Ryedale area outside of the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For information on current projects please see Action on the Ground.
