The Chairman
The Chairman of Council is elected for one term of office by
fellow Councillors.
The Chairman chairs meetings of the full Council, represents the
District Council at ceremonial occasions and is invited to attend a
wide range of events and presentations.
Councillor Eric Hope was elected as Chairman on 17 May 2012 and
has been a Member of Ryedale District Council for 5 years
representing the Sheriff Hutton Ward. He is married to Daphne and
they have four children and five grandchildren.
Eric, a semi-retired landscape gardener and crop consultant,
served as a Special Constable in North Yorkshire Police for over 30
years before retiring in 2000. He trained in crowd and stadium
management and became a Safety Officer working at York City
Football Club.
His hobbies include fishing, vintage tractors, auction sales and
spending time with his family.
His chosen charities for the year are Ryedale Stroke Group and
Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Vice-Chairman
Councillor Janet Frank has been elected as the Vice-Chairman for
the Council.
