Street Trading Licences

Ryedale District Council has adopted powers under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 to prohibit street trading from certain streets within the District.
 
Street trading means selling, exposing or offering for sale any articles and street includes all parts comprising the highway (i.e. a road), including verges, lay-byes, bus stops and road cut-offs.
 
Roads designated as prohibited streets by Ryedale District Council include:
  • A64 York to Scarborough
  • A170 Thirsk to Scarborough
  • A169 Malton to Whitby
  • A166 York to Bridlington
  • B1248 Malton to Beverley
  • B1249 Driffield to Staxton
  • B1257 Malton to Stokesley
These are the principal roads that run through the District. Certain other roads and streets in Ryedale have been designated as prohibited streets. A definitive list is available by contacting Health and Environment on 01653 600666 ext 249, 254, 300, 359 or 394.
