    Ryedale

Ryedale nestles between York and the Heritage Coastline of North Yorkshire. The North York Moors form the northern border of the District and the Yorkshire Wolds the southern limit. Ryedale is a diverse and beautiful area of spectacular scenery, bustling market towns, dale and hill farms, and picturesque villages, making it a popular and varied tourism destination, especially for those who love walking and mountain biking.

Due to the rural nature of the district, industry has traditionally focussed on agriculture; however the food and drink industry, engineering, manufacturing and tourism are now major employers. The manufacturing sector is characterised by a strong emphasis on hi-tech research and development companies that supply specialist parts to the global oil industry. Ryedale is also the home of The Food and Environment Research Agency located on the A64, which employs over 500 people. The hi tech engineering and science based industries are interwoven with smaller local companies employing less than 25 people that provide a high proportion of jobs in Ryedale.

The schools in Ryedale traditionally produce excellent results and although a proportion of students will leave the area to further their education, the Council together with other organisations strive to promote innovation and encourage entrepreneurial skills, as well as providing local opportunities for training and apprenticeship schemes within Ryedale companies, especially within the manufacturing and engineering sector to secure the future and sustained economic growth of the district.

There are a number of industrial and retail areas in Ryedale. Industrial premises range from small starter units through to freehold premises and there are also a number of development sites, of various sizes, available.
