The Economy and Community Section manage a range of
grants for community and voluntary groups. All of these grants have
limited budgets and conditions may change from time to time, so
please call us and we will be happy to advise you.

Name of Grant: REACT Fund –
Ryedale Environmental
Action
Purpose of Grant: The REACT fund aims
to support community-led environmental action in Ryedale.
Who Can Apply? Any voluntary or
community group which has a constitution and a self-controlled bank
account can apply for funding for environmental projects, such as
recycling, green tourism, countryside work, energy saving schemes,
local distinctiveness and wildlife.
Money Available: Grants of up to £1,000
are available. Groups must have 50% match funding for their
REACT grant; match funding can be in other grants, own funds, in
kind contributions or volunteer hours.
Restrictions: Projects must be in
Ryedale.
Name of Grant: Nominal
Grant
Purpose of Grant: To help voluntary
& community organisations in Ryedale by contributing to general
running
costs.
Who Can Apply? Groups providing
non-statutory social services (for example playgroups or older
people’s groups).
Money Available: The grant is currently
set at up to £100 per applicant per annum.
Restrictions: Applications will not be
accepted from private individuals or from commercially promoted
projects or businesses.
Name of Grant: Main
Programme Grant
Purpose of Grant: To provide financial
assistance to voluntary & community organisations based within
Ryedale District for specific project work in the cultural or
community sector. For example, capital projects such as
village hall improvements, sports facility development and revenue
projects such as youth festivals and annual grants to community
‘umbrella’ organisations.
Who Can Apply? Properly ‘not for
profit’ constituted charitable, voluntary or community
organisations with a locally controlled bank account.
Applications can be for capital funding (for example, buildings,
fixed equipment) or for revenue funding (for example, insurance,
training costs, rent of premises).
Money Available: Capital grants will be
awarded to a maximum of 20% of total capital project costs, up to a
maximum of £25,000.
Revenue grants are not awarded as a percentage of project
cost, but on a case by case basis. Sums will usually be of a
nominal nature.
Restrictions: Applications will not be
accepted from private individuals or from commercially promoted
projects or businesses. Funding is not available for core
costs.
Name of Grant: Talented
Youth Grant
Purpose of Grant: To support residents
of Ryedale who are between 12 and 18 and demonstrating exceptional
levels of achievement in Sport or the Arts.
Who Can Apply? Parents or guardians of
such young people.
Money Available: The grant is currently
set at £130 per young person per year.
Restrictions: Only applies to young
people under the age of 18. Applications are considered
annually in May.
Name of Grant: Christmas
Lights Grants
Purpose of Grant: To support
communities in displaying Christmas Lights
Who Can Apply? Community Groups and
Parish Councils.
Money Available: The grant is nominal
and is related to population.
Restrictions: Application by letter in
October.
Name of Grant: Guarantee Against
Loss
Purpose of Grant: To offer a safety net
to groups who are in the process of organising arts performances in
their communities. The GAL can help to cover any shortfall if
the event is not as successful as had been hoped and is designed to
encourage new activities.
Who can Apply? Any constituted group
wishing to put on an arts performance in their community.
Money Available: Up to £150 to help
cover unexpected losses
Restrictions: Applications are not
accepted from private individuals or from commercially promoted
projects or businesses. GAL cannot be used as
partial funding towards the cost of an event. Groups
must properly constituted.
Name of Grant: Small Arts Grant
Purpose of Grant: To encourage groups
to try out new ideas across the arts. Priority areas are
projects which:
- Increase access to the arts for people who are isolated due to
rural conditions, disability or ethnic background
- Increase social inclusion (this means working to make the arts
available to people who would not normally take part)
- Support the creative economy
- Maximise the benefits to the environment
- Improve cross-cultural awareness
Who can Apply? Anyone is welcome to apply
– constituted groups, informal groups and individuals will all be
considered. Particular consideration will be given to groups
which have not received funding before.
Money available: If your group has a
constitution and audited accounts you can apply for up to
£500. If you are an individual or your group is a purely
informal one you can apply for up to £100, but there may be
additional restrictions on how you can spend this money. No
match funding required but we will expect groups to have raised
some money to put into their idea or to be making contributions
“in-kind”. Projects can be up to a total of £20 000,
especially when money from Ryedale District Council will help
groups gain access to other
funding.

accepted from commercially promoted projects or
businesses.

Name of Grant: Sports Grants
Purpose of Grant: The District Council
has established the Ryedale Sport and Active Recreation Executive
(RSARE) – a partnership between the public and voluntary sector
organisations involved in sport in Ryedale. This group also meets
as the local Community Sports Network. We are also members of North
Yorkshire Sport, which is a County wide partnership which
operates a number of programmes, such as coaching and volunteer
training to improve access to sports activities.
Community based sports groups have access to a range of grants
through RSARE, programmes operated by NYS and to national Sport
England funding through the Community Sports Network.

Name of Grant: LEADER
Purpose of Grant: LEADER is a European
Community initiative running from 2007 - 2013 to assist rural
communities to improve the quality of life and economic prosperity
in their local area.
