Preparing for emergencies

Being prepared for major incidents and emergencies such as flooding, large industrial accidents, power cuts or severe weather will help reduce the fear, anxiety, anger, cost and sense of loss that such events can bring. If you know what to do and have made simple precautions, then the impact on you and your loved ones can be drastically reduced.

The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) promotes both personal and community resilience. You may wish to have a household plan, a grab bag or even just a plan that you have discussed with your family to refer to in case of an emergency.

Some Parish/Town Councils also plan for their community. This may be for winter maintenance or emergencies in general.

Help on creating a personal or community emergency plan can be found on the NYLRF website or by email to emergency@northyorks.gov.uk .
